They are so adorable, cuddly and completely vulnerable. Polar bears capture the admiration and recognition of folks the world over for their fluffy white furs as well as huggable size. They win appreciation from animal lovers for their hunting skill and survival tactics in one of the harshest atmospheres on Planet. However in spite of their overpowering attraction these giants are in risk of being actually wiped off Earth absolutely.
The Bear Basics
Polar bears are a sizable varieties that make their homes on the frozen Arctic sea. The bears will definitely waste the majority of their lives on the ice. Males are able to grow up to ten feet in span and weigh in at over 500 kilograms! The bears are actually carnivores, implying they consume the meat of other Arctic animals. At present there are actually predicted to be actually only less than 50 thousands Arctic polar bears left in the wild. They are actually on the Endangered Animal List.
Interference in the form of government controls to lower human influence has been actually highlighted as a top priority in America and more countries. In addition, individual companies as well as interest bunches proceed to lobby and work by having the government to defend this important pet in its natural environment. Aside from authorities intervention, more research relating to global warming is important so that the temperature change can easily be stopped or countermanded. There are agencies that are actually raising hard earned cash for this extremely function. One more manner communities are actually helping the polar bear is to utilize competent bear patrol agents to keep the land bound polar bears from individuals and to make sure that the bears are actually not contending as well really with the people for the food resources on land.
One are able to get entailed in the search to cut the Arctic Polar Bears by functioning instantly with the Globe Fauna Fund. Begin your rewarding journey today by visiting Polar Bears at World Wild Life.
I guess they could eat the penguins instead of seals.
I am concerned about that too. I think that polar bears could survive, relatively unchanged, there. However, I think that moving polar bears to the Antarctic might be proved disastrous to some of the native species. I am particularly thinking about the penguins. They (at least some species there) spend the winter months caring for their egg. They stand in large colonies and carry it on their feet. With a couple of polar bears there, an unknown predator, and an egg on their feet, the situation looks pretty grim. Polar bears will survive, as they have habitat on Canada and so on, but their feeding habits will have to change. They will most likely evolve to resemble the Brown bear in appearance, and habits.
I’m sorry but the polar bears are goners… I wish it wasn’t so… But there are plenty of things we can do to reverse anthropogenic global warming: http://wisepagan.com/article003.html And there is PLENTY of Hard Science to show us that we are causing Global Warming: The Official Site of the IPCC: http://www.ipcc.ch/present/graphics.htm Also – know your enemy – it is the AAPG – American Association of Petroleum Geologists and Lockheed Martin. These two organizations are behind the “don’t believe in it” propaganda. Their motive is simple – keep America from switching to Green Energy. Do you ever wonder why we aren’t allowed to buy all the electric cars that have been invented over the years? It is because the oil companies have powerful lobbyists to make sure it doesn’t happen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Association_of_Petroleum_Geologists
The only they could survive is if their food supply moved there as well. Currently they would starve.
How can we save all the baby penguins, polar bears, and sea lions from extinction??? They are so cool…..and so close to being extinct.. Global warming blows man…. How can we save them?
While there is some evidence of warming, it is mostly thought to be caused by the natural cycles the Earth has gone through for eons. There are some that try to blame mankind for all of it, and I must admit that the old coal furnaces, leaded gas, and rampant deforestation that happen prior to the the 80′s may have contributed to the global warming in a small part; we are way to small to think we actual can change this planet on a planetary scale for any length of time though!
Don’t eat them.
i thank the only way we can save them is to put them in zoos because if the world stays like it is they will die in the wild. my teacher said that people are finding polar bear droning for the frist time in history!if we dont stop this it will be over for us all!
Maybe they are supposed to be extinct already
People have found Polar Bears drowned because of the ice has melted where they would usually have went. They hunt seals that are on “pack ice” which has melted due to global warming. The Polar Bears therefore have more trouble to find food. Im not sure if it is in 100yrs they will be extinct, but at this rate, it looks as though they may become extinct in the future.

No they won’t be extinct. They will find a way to adapt to climate change. Maybe they’ll migrate to the South Pole, then they’ll be known as Bi-Polar Bears!
Has global warming lost it’s mascot? In a ground breaking discovery an Icelandic scientist has found the jawbone of a polar bear that carbon dates to 110-130 thousand years old. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7132220.stm This indicates that the divergence of the polar bear species from the brown bear species possibly occurred prior to the last inter-glacial period (with an approximate 10% margin of error) which in turn could negate the hysteria of polar bear extinction due to global warming. Furthermore this brings up an interesting yet often neglected aspect of planetary health: adaptation. While the pro-AGW crowd predicts the end of civilization if immediate and drastic measures are not taken to reduce CO2 emissions, have they neglected the basic ability of individuals, species, communities and civilization to adapt to change? @TooFew – thanks for the input but I think you’re missing the point of the question.
I agree with Toofew…… The Polar Bear is picked because it has a warm & fuzzy look….. perfect for the misleading madison avenue ad campaign that Warmers are paying big bucks for. It would be interesting to see the reaction to a new mascot…. say a Killer Whale (Orca) while it is chomping a baby Seal in half! Lesson to be learned….. With clever advertising, you can sell a ‘Pet Rock’, Quail-dropping jewelry or get a person elected as President.
Um, so what’s your point exactly? We already knew the polar bear diverged from the brown bear about 200,000 years ago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_bear#Taxonomy_and_evolution That’s cool they found a jawbone, but it doesn’t really tell us much we didn’t already know. Here is the global temperature and CO2 data from ice cores. http://www.nc-climate.ncsu.edu/images/climate/climate_change/global_co2_temp.png Over the past 200,000 years, global temperatures haven’t been more than about 3-4 deg C warmer than they are now. On the current CO2 emissions path, we’re set to hit that global temperature probably sometime between 2050 and 2100. http://climateprogress.org/2008/12/21/hadley-study-warns-of-catastrophic-5%C2%B0c-warming-by-2100-on-current-emissions-path/ In other words, the polar bear is threatened based on the current emissions path. Now, I don’t personally care about the polar bear any more than the other millions of species which are in danger due to climate change, but your argument here doesn’t hold water.
Aussies: Can you please save the polar bears before the whales? I was watching my country’s news talking about how to import minke whale throats or something, and I was quite surprised that the news talked about it so casually! Ordinary Japanese people don’t seem to realize that whaling is a bad thing because whale slaughter has been a part of our culture for centuries. They don’t realize that it’s something wrong to do TODAY. But then the news changed to polar bears in danger of extinction. Australians, how about doing something to save the polar bears rather than throwing stink bombs at Japanese whaling ships? I think it’s much more useful than trying to save the whales because the Japanese are stubborn and ignorant they probably won’t give up for quite a while. The polar bears need urgent help. Well I’m saying, if you’re going to do “something”, why not help the polar bears? The Japanese suck so it seems they don’t want to do anything.
The polar bears are dying because of global warming. There are a lot of nations responsible for global warming namely U.S.A,Europe,Australia,ASIA and the list goes on. Whaling is predominately done by the Japanese. It is those Japanese whalers who are responsible for the death of the whales. No one else! I sincerly hope that Australia will not give up on trying to save the whales from the claws of the whalers. As for saving the polar bears? What is your country doing about that?
WE DONT HAVE POLAR BEARS.
I don’t think Australians actually eat polar bears. They certainly don’t eat polar bear liver (which is poisonous to humans). But the main reason is that it is easy to save whales: stop eating them and the populations will recover naturally. Whales are not naturally a species in crisis: if they become extinct it will be our fault. It is much more difficult to protect polar bears. The bears have evolved to exploit a specific environmental niche very efficiently – now it seem that niche is being threatened. Polar bears are threatened both by global warming, and by changes in the ocean currents. At present we could not fix those problems even if we wanted to:- we don’t know how. Some species (including polar bears and pandas) would probably be in trouble even if there were no people on earth. With some other species (rhino and whales) their main problem is predation by people.
Effect of Extinction? What effect, if any, does the extinction of polar bears have on humans? I know other species, such as honey bees becoming extinct, has a very large impact, but what about losing a species due to global warming (even if you believe it’s nonexistent)? What are the immediate or long-term effects to humans, direct or indirect? I’m welcome to theories but if you don’t have a clue and are making up bologna, please refrain from posting an answer. Thank you!
Biodiversity decreases. Polar bears, eat seals. Assume polar bears go extinct, there are now more seals, because there’s one less predator to hunt the seals. Now what the seals eat, will decrease in population, so say a type of fish reduces in population, then people cannot eat that type of fish as often. It doesn’t seem that significant, but let it grow over time… and see what happens.
